Just a Reminder:

If you have the First Generation Magazines, and maybe some others that cause you trouble, Taurus will replace/exchange them.  Call Taurus CS and see what they will do for you.

I tried the magazines with the Para12 springs.  No help.  Almost every round will nose dive and stick in the magazine.  The extra power may have actually caused them to wedge tighter.

My new XD45 worked flawlessly.  I think the 24/7 OSS fits my hand better, but I can shoot either equally well.

I think I'm going to trade in the OSS.  I like my 24/7 Pro C 9mm for my concealed carry weapon.  It has been reliable, but I can't say the same for this 24/7 OSS DS .45.

With the changes that Taurus has tried on the various magazines, and the fact that the problem is still there in the latest generation of magazines, I think there is an issue with the 24/7 when it goes from the 9mm and .40 up to the larger .45 ACP.  I wonder if the design adjustments that have to be made to fit the larger cartridge to the nice size grip frame leave it vulnerable to magazine or feed issues.

My past lessons learned is not to throw good money after bad.  I had a Colt Pocket 9 that I took to a very good gunsmith to make it reliable.  It never was.  I ended up trading it in on a rifle.  If one of the good aftermarket magazine companies made replacement mags, I might try theirs.  I haven't found anyone but Taurus who makes these magazines.

I know Taurus will stand behind the weapon.  I had this same gun sent back to fix an issue with the magazine release and the slide release spring.  I just don't have the patience to wait 5 weeks or more to find out the problem may not be fixed.  I would rather spend it at the range improving my skills.  I know I'll take about 30% loss on the trade-in but for me it is time to move on.

I have checked my 2 mags and found I have the second generation. My question is can I get the 3rd generation from a third party? I cannot afford to be without my mags as I carry my 24/7 on a daily basis on the job.

Certainly!  CDNN has them for sale and for less $$ than I paid for my Spare third generation magazines last year.  There are other Online Stores that have them too!

Well, I'm getting ready to send one of my two 2nd Gen mags to Miami.  Had the gun about 18 months, but haven't shot it that much.  Have always had a few issues, but figured it was break in or limp wristing.  Shooting it more now, and both mags are almost certain to have nosedives on the 3rd and 4th rounds from a full mag.  And the 12th round often gets caught standing straight up in the feed lips.

The 3rd and 4th rounds end up like the photo above - level with the mag top, not the lips - so after searching here, reading this post, and finding a YouTube video, I'm thinking I got some of the bad ones.  Gonna send one back and try the replacement...

Got a link for that YouTube Video?

Sure do...  The guy is known here as LedJedi.

I only occassionaly get the "standing up" problem he describes with the last round - full mag or not.  But I do have a fair bit of play in the round, and if I feed a round by hand - pushing horizontally like the slide would - the round seems to pivot nose down and can get hung up on the front edge of the mag.  If I'm more careful and push on the round "in line" with the feed lips (more "uphill"), then the round will come out OK, but the next round may not pop "nose up" to align with the feed lips and it looks like the photos above.  One mag goes in the mail tomorrow.

Hope a replacement will fix things.  I really like my 24/7, and the wife does too!

Just got of the phone with CDNN and asked them if the magazines they are advertising for the 24/7 .45 are the 3rd generation. Unfortunately the person I spoke to knew nothing about 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation magazines. I offered to fax them a copy of the 3 generations but he seemed uninterested to learn as he replied that the fax will not show them the difference. This was my first experience with CDNN and will be the last. If anyone out there knows of a knowledgeable dealer I would appreciate any input. I have had too many disappointments in ordering items and having to return them.

I would not judge them (CDNN) too harshly.  Most Retailers will not know such detail about the different products they carry.  Most .45 24/7 Magazines on stock these days will be the latest ones and the Third Generation Magazines have been available since September of 2008, which was a bit of time ago.  CDNN did not even have the .45 24/7 Magazines until this last November 2009.  Been watching their stock for sales and I get regular Sales Emails.

If you really don't trust the Third Party Retailers you can always buy them directly from Taurus, but that typically will be more expensive.

Thanks for the input. I also just got of the phone with Taurus and believe it or not they have the same attitude as CDNN. When they get an order for a part they just go to the bin reach in and grab an item stick in a padded envelope and off it goes. I agree with you about the retailers stocking the latest items, but being the pessimist that I am I would end up getting and older model. So I have decided to wait for the next gun show here in Vegas and pick up a pair then. Happy shooting!!

Very interesting and informative post(s) gentlemen.  If I find a used 24/7 in 45, how will I know which mags I should use?  I don't find any reference to differences in the pistols, just the magazines.  Is this true?  That is, all the 24/7's should use the newer mags without a problem?

I'm going to be re-reading this thread again very soon, because I placed a 24/7 Pro .454 ACP blued in the layaway today.  This most informtive thread will really be helpful to me when I bring my gun home.
