    Speeding Ticket??

Top This One For A Speeding Ticket ????? I was stationed at this base, and know the road they were talking about!!

Two California Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar. One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill. The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then turned off.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location.

Back at the CHP Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander. The reply came back in true USMC style:
    ~ ~ ~
Thank you for your letter. We can now complete the file on this incident.

You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down.

Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location.

Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position.

The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech.

Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster.

    Thank you for your concern.

    Re: Speeding Ticket??

Would not try to top the speeding ticket story. But here is another story.

My wife and I were in the middle of the Salt Flats many years ago and decided we needed to get out of the car and see what they looked like up close. I almost stained my briefs when some weekend warrior came silently from behind us at a very low altitude and broke the sonic barrier just before he passed over us.

Warn't no accident as he passed directly over us and went up and out of the valley. He had a story to tell over beer that night and it was funny to us very quickly after it happened.

not to be a booger, I know people hate when people do this, but I just gotta correct something.

I highly doubt, but it is possible, that the plan broke the sound barrier just as her passed over you.

The sonic Boom you hear follows him, you just hear it as he passes you... well, technically just a few moments after depending on speed, altitude and distance.

He could have broke it just as he passed you, but you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Sorry, just had correct. Don't hate me too much.

from what ive been told, if he was that low, a sonic boom would have shatterd all the windows on the car and possibly a few eardrums.

In 1971 and 1972, I used to do rail inspection for the A.T.& S.F. railway in Arizona. Fighter aircraft would practice radar evading low flights by hugging the railroad tracks, as there was never more than a 1% grade change on the tracks. I'm sure they were a couple of hundred feet in the air, but it made me feel like they had just ran over my butt when they went by. I only had it happen a couple of times, but it does get your attention; far more than the buzz of a rattlesnake that you just stepped over. Fortunatly, that only happened twice also.

Danged if I know if he broke the sonic barrier. All I know was silence, followed by a loud boom that sounded right above us, and by the time we could look up the jet was disappearing in the distance. No offense taken to technical corrections as to what might have actually caused it.

Did you look around to see if he had dropped anything around ya? could have been a different kind of BOOM! Singed hair, shrapnel, warm feeling on your skin?

    Re: Speeding Ticket??

Back in the '70's, I was stopped for 90 over 55 on the service road next to the Highway between Saratoga Springs and Glen Falls, NY. I was driving a VW 911. I showed the LEO my Navy ID and a tow bill from the night before.

I explained that my other car had been vandalized the night before and towed for scrap. The vehicle I was driving had decided that only the parking lights needed to work and, being dusk, I was trying to get to Glen Falls to pick up my wife from work so we could get home before full dark.

    He told me:
He was amazed that a VW could do 90.
He was giving me a warning ticket.
That I would find out what the bottom side of the jail looked like if he ever caught me speeding again.

Amazing, but a true story. And btw, he never caught me speeding again.

    Re: Speeding Ticket??

    Great stories!

1 sure fire way to tell if the jet's breaking the sound barrier is that the air in front gets compressed so much that at the moment the barrier breaks it creates a visible effect akin to smoke rings. lol. 1 at the nose and generally 1 at the tail.

I was at the beach in Va. Beach when a hotshot came over the main drag/the strip in a F-14, he decided it was advantageous to go supersonic and caused quite a bit of damage to 2 highrise hotels located there. Was fairly dangerous, but altogether funny and awe inspiring.

Later on base I found out he had been grounded and "reprimanded".

I also saw a pair of PanAvia Tornadoes come in over Lk St. Clair in Michigan en route to Selfridge supersonic and about 200 feet off the deck. now THAT... was awesome! No idea what became of those Brits, but I'm sure by the Coast Guard heli and the 2 F/A-18s scrambled by Selfridge pointed at intercept meant they weren't supposed to do that.

    Good times, good times.
If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
