    The Taurus Review

I am a long time guest to the site but this is my first time posting. My background is that I am an Army pilot in the guard and I am also a police officer. The aircraft I fly shoots rockets, .50 cal rounds or even hellfire missiles. As a soldier and a cop, I am trained to shoot under stress and I normally shoot a 98 percent. Heck, I even won top gun in aerial gunnery with a helicopter. I say all that not to toot my own horn, but to say I have been around guns for a while and am pretty good at shooting them. You name it, I have probably shot it.

I recently was in a gun store where I could buy whatever I wanted. They had SIG, Colts, S & W and all sorts of 1911 styles. Everyone in there was screaming "get the Sig". The sales people where the worst. HOWEVER, the manager told me to go with the Taurus. I am not stranger to Taurus. I own a PT111, a 24/7 and now a sweet PT1911. This man could sell me anything in the case and his job is based on sales. Yet our conversation made me totally revaluate how I buy guns.

Taurus is like Hyundai. Most people thought they were crap when they first came out. Now they are quality vehicles. People still think they are crap, but they have the best warranty and customer satisfaction in the business. I am not saying Taurus guns are the end all be all. What I am saying is that they are quality guns period. Those other brand name guns don’t give you that much more in quality or reliability. So why pay $500 dollar more for 1/8 of an inch tighter shot group? If you can shoot…you can shoot plain and simple. My only complaint about Taurus is the lack of custom accessories. But that isn’t Taurus fault. But the more we buy and the more demands we make, that will change. The craftsmanship isn't top of the line, but the quality is just as good as anything else.

So if you are thinking about buying a Taurus, do it. You will not be disappointed. These are great guns. I will not longer let people get away with telling me my Taurus is a piece of junk. When they do, I challenge them to a shoot off and I kick there but EVERY time. I plan to start competing with Taurus guns in the near future and I will be using a Taurus.

This being a Taurus-centric page, you're mostly singing to the choir! On the other hand, there are a lot of lurkers who may be swayed by your objective comments.

As a former cruchy/bullet catcher/grunt (aka, Infantry), I thank you both for your service and for C'ing my A (or my contempory's) as you do so well in your whirly thingamajiggy.

Nice to hear from someone who has given a Taurus an honest examination. As Merlinspop says, I hope others will read your review and change their minds..

I find it sad how many people pass on a Taurus, when the value-for-money is so much in their favor.

I think the Hyundai analogy was spot on.

    Re: The Taurus Review

I am trying my best not to get post happy, but I must say I love all my Taurus guns. My wife even carries a Taurus snubby. For years, I went back and forth that when I bought a Taurus, I was buying a piece of junk. I am now coming "out the gun closet". I could go to other forums and sing its praises, but I say "let the idiots be idiots". The Taurus PT1911 is a fine handgun. If you do not have one, you need to get it.

I recently had the same experience. One salesman said to stay away from them and to get this SW that was rough and scratchy...but the older guy said you will like the Taurus and it shoots really well.

    Re: The Taurus Review

I had the salesman experience as well. I already knew I was probably going to get the Taurus after researching online and comparing prices new vs used. After searching around I found a PT92 99% new contition. While I was inspecting it the salesman says "Well for another $50 more you can get a Glock, which is a more reliable gun and is more easily broken down for cleaning". Ok, let me take a look. He proceeds to bring out this beat up, scratched up, POS Glock and sing the praises of it. He takes it apart and when putting it back together screws up and somehow gets the slide jammed. lol. I left with the the PT92 and found it came apart for cleaning exactly as the Glock did, but went back together no problem. lol. Spent the $50 extra on ammo.

Range report, range report please. LOL Inquiring minds want to know the "juicy" details.

No, the report is not necessarily the sound the gun makes going off and details are not what we sit on. LOL

    Re: The Taurus Review

dcc, welcome to the site from and ex Huey crewchief that went to Navy C-9's and then on to being a C-130 loadmaster that now is the chief of airfield management in the airguard. Thanks for the service and nice post at the top. I bought my PT 1911 about 6 months ago. I searched the web like a mad man and decided that the Taurus was at the top of my wish list. When I first put one in my hand it was all over but the cryin, had to have it. What is kind of fun is that the shop where I got mine had the Taurus 1911 right next to the Kimbers. I asked the shop owner if that was to try to sell more Kimbers, he said at first it was but he's ended up selling more Taurus 1911's!!!
