I did not see anything that indicates you must show ID to purchase ammo in RI, I would imagine if you looked under 21 they might ask.

I can see your point here. I know I have called local Sheriff for suspicious behavior; they usually have a laundry list of questions that they ask before sending someone out. Followed by getting your contact information. At what point is it a legitimate concern? That could be a very hard call to make.
I dont think I have ever called the cops for anything, nor would I. Especially suspicious behavior, because I have no idea what that means. And from the mouth of one of the very few people I actually trust and admire, Andrew Napolitano, "even if you call them, never let the police into your home, they do not have your best interest in mind, and anything they see, touch or hear, can be used against you"
I am not trying to jump on you, just throwing my pennies out there.

I believe in the not so distant future America will become a police state. Now keep in mind I have a bunch of friends that are LEO's, who would never adhere to such a condition, because most of them are good Christian men. But I fear that due to the way our nation is heading that it could come to pass, all in the name of security or something of that nature. This and our nation becoming more Godless everyday makes it all the easier for it to happen. JMO, & I hope in God's Name I'm wrong

God, God-fearing Christian men have stopped me at roadside checks and askef me for my papers.

I think the guy handled it wrong.
he should have told the police officer that he still has a legal right to purchase ammunition and if they pull his file again for such trivial illegal BS, they wont have to worry about bullets or guns, they'll have to worry about his lawyer.
lets Ponder this scenario for a moment...
A woman takes her child shopping with her. She buys the typical groceries and buys the kid an ice cream cone.
Now enter a Vegan Zealot employee who is disgusted that the child is eating an animal product. The Zealot calls Child Protective services and claims child abuse...
We see similar issues to this in Animal rescue Almost daily. Just remember that under due process, you have the right to confront your accuser. Anonymous persons can not be cross examined.

The guy said DEM? Department of Emergency Management? I know every state has an "Emergency Management" group as an extension of homeland security.

What I did not know was they were planting these people in gun shops to surveil the customers.

When I was actively going to the range I could easily go through 300-500 rounds in a day or two.
Shooting targets and other inanimate objects is addictive fun. Not a crime.

Is the Zombie Apocalypse at hand, and nobody told me? Dammit, where's my credit card?

Sorry Rifleshooter, you got it a bit wrong. You must already have the 10,000 rounds BEFORE the zombie apocalypse.

Zombie UPS drivers WILL NOT deliver ammo to their food stock. :-)

I was at a private range over the weekend and 12 guys shot on average 200 rounds each. And there was EASILY 2x that amount that was on the various tables at the end of the day. And on average there were 2 guns per person -- especially interesting statistic as 2 of the guys don't own guns and were just out to see what shooting stuff was all about!

I'd say this guy got profiled! The Democrats and their liberal policy of "Guilty until proven otherwise," seems to be at work here. DHS may have issued a request for reporting of people buying suspicious amounts of ammo and asked to be notified. Suspicious amounts of ammo is an ambiguous term. Is it more than one box? Is it 10,000 rounds? Is it a tractor trailer load? The fact that this guy also had direct access to offshore waters may have played into that profile as well.

That said, it still doesn't make it right. This is a direct result of the Patriot Act, allowing government to spy on individuals without a warrant issued by a judge after presenting a justifiable probable cause. Big brother is out there and he's getting bigger and bolder all the time!

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.' Thomas Jefferson

I live in RI and most likely just swore off the exact Local Gun Store that this guy used. RI is a VERY democratic state and it's so small that everyone wants to know everyones elses business. It's like one big high shcool with the gossip and noseyness. I will tell you the the RI state police are no joke. Well armed and VERY well trained. Basically run as a military group. I am not however suprized at all that they made the call... I guarantee the RISP will error on the side of caution, constitution be dammed. Not that I agree...
