    An unfortunate accident

A hug, a dance, a fatal shot raise doubts | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com

There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but some additional facts:
The gun was in a holster, right side, IWB
The holster is described as "soft" - I'm not sure what that means.
Current thinking is that the trigger was manipulated while the gun was in the holster.

Let's think about the choices we make and stay safe.
When considering a nonlinear system, make simplifying assumptions:
    1. Assume a spherical kaw of uniform density.
    2. Ignore gravity.
    3. In a vacuum.

I read this in our local paper yesterday. Very sad. Haven't heard what type of gun it was.

Too many unanswered questions on this one.

I'm still waiting to see WTF he was carrying (besides his manhood) that would "go off" when hugged.

The article says the hug was from behind. It sounds more like he was wearing a shoulder rig with a horizontal carry. I wonder how reliable the IWB report is?

    It was a S&W M&P .40 with an 8 lb. trigger.
It was definitely an IWB holster - that information was released by the investigator.

Wasn't it a Detroit SWAT Officer a while back who said on camera that he was the only one there qualified to handle a Glock 40, then proceeded to shoot himself in the leg with it on camers? Just sayin! Something ain't quite right with this story.

I haven't seen an IWB yet that would shoot anywhere but down if it discharged in the holster. I have to agree with USN2P - the only thing I can think of that would do that is a horizontal shoulder rig. I'm thinkin' either the investigator misspoke, or there's more to the story than we're being told.

There is definitely more to the story. The investigation is ongoing and there are unanswered questions. But the holster is for sure. Both the investigator and the PD spokesman have been very clear in response to questions.
They are trying to figure out how it happened, right now all we have are a few facts.
