I don't go below 9mm. The reasons that one might are well covered here as is a cross section of today's quality 380s (if you twisted my arm I'd buy the Sig or the Bersa) - with so many pocket good 9s available now (don't forget the 40 S&W as well) I don't even give 380 (or 38 - no wheel gun for me thanks!) a thought any more. My two bits.

If you want a great 380 to conceal I personally recommend the Sig P238. I have had mine for about a year now, and it goes everywhere with me. I carry it in the holster in my front pocket. It looks like a wallet. I have also carried it in the inner pocket of a sportcoat, and also my rear pants pocket. You can get the Sig wallet holster for about $25. from Sig.

Also, if you can wait, Sig is coming out with a 9 mm version of the P238. It is almost identical in size. It is the P938
The overall length is only about 1/4 in longer.

I wish I could afford the SIGs you mentioned Rob, because they are superior pistols. However, I am stuck with trying to do the best I can with a ceiling of $300.......

I know what you are saying. For me though, after handling this gun at the gun range, I knew I wanted one myself. So a slated away some money for a time, and finally bought one. The prices listed are their mfg suggested, and you can get them a little less than Sig's posted price.

If your looking for a piece that is a backup, or for use with light clothing, then you can still find some other good options to look into at the price ceiling you have. I liked the Taurus 380, in fact, for me, the grip felt better than the Ruger. I hesitated on the BodyGuard, as I did not want a built in laser.

really depends on what you are looking to do with the gun!
even the really small 9mm are not as small and light as the micro 380's.
    heres a 709 VS a 738.

Don't pass up the opportunity to consider the KelTec P3AT, which started the parade for these micro-guns. Awesome, and a number of the posters on this forum have them and like them. I am quite satisfied with mine, though I normally carry a 9mm for EDC.

    Depends on the gun!
the Sig 238 is a single action 380 and so is designed to carry cocked and locked, so the commander ring type hammer rest securely in the grip tang recess (what would be the grip safety on a regular 1911), along with low no snag sights, and a nice rounded slide the gun has never failed or tryed to fail to easily come out of the pocket holster that it rides in.
Now of course if one wears skin tight jeans, then that could be a problem, pocket size makes all the difference in carrying in the pocket.

    Suggestions in no particular order:

    Bersa Thunder .380
    CZ83
    Taurus PT138

    Instead consider a Taurus PT111 in 9x19mm.
