    .45 vs. .44 magnum

Not sure if this is the right place, if not moods can move it. Now with that being said, today at a local pawn shop found a 1911 Taurus. 45 all blued and also a. 44 nag Taurus don't remember what model, both are priced at 500.00 just wanted opinions on which y'all would go with and why or why not.

.45ACP isn't even close to .44 magnum. The .44 would fire a similar size projectile nearly twice as fast, with something like 3x the energy.

Which one to get is down to preference. The .44 (depending on the size of the gun) is gonna have some mean recoil, and be a little expensive to shoot (unless you shoot some cheaper .44 special). .45ACP in a 1911 still has a big boom, but is much more comfortable to shoot. .44 would be better for hunting if you felt like it, but .45 is by no means a weak round.

Basically do you want a revolver, or do you want a semi-auto?

And if you want a revolver, why not start with something a little less hard on the shooter like .357 or .38?

I would choose (and have chosen) the PT1911. 1911 is a fun platform to shoot, parts are REAL easy to find, and in my opinion is just a good looking gun--not to say there's anything wrong with revolvers.

The .44 mag is definitely a more powerful round than a .45 ACP, the muzzle velocities really aren't even close. The end result can be just as deadly with either round, but if going with the same price and looking for the most bang, go with the .44 mag. However if you feel the need to pick up another weapon and you already stock .45 ACP, go with the 1911 so you don't have the need to buy a whole new set of ammo for the one gun.

I would buy both, oh wait, I already did.

But it's all a matter of what you like, both are great but each severs a slightly different purpose. I wouldn't say that there are pros or cons when choosing the right gun for you.

Misread the question, I thought you were trying to get a comparison between the two. Edited my other post and added what I would go with.

When dealing with revolvers you'll find that they tend to fall short in the area of capacity. A 44mag revolver will hold 5 or 6 rounds. A mid size pistol chambered in 45acp will general hold 7 to 10 rounds in a factory magazine. Many would say that the 45acp is a sluggish round but that's only becuase it is a relatively huge projectile with a considerably lighter charge than a 44 mag. There are other factors to consider but it's up to you to decide if any of these are pros or cons.

I carry a six-shooter daily already so I don't see that as a con. Like I said though just honestly looking for other peoples thoughts on the topic.
