Ammo boxes can't really be surplus

I noticed that Cheaper Than Dirt has been advertising brand new .50 cal ammo boxes available by the case. Decent price, but:

They kind-of make it sound like they are original, govt. issue, and like they were just "found" in a warehouse somewhere. Yeah, right.

If you REALLY read the description, it raises some flags.

Something tells me that these boxes are probably made in "dear old China".

CTD doesn't specify the country of origin in the produce description.

Anybody ever purchase any? Are they as good as old USA surplus boxes?

If it goes bang, and it isn't corrosive ammo, who really cares if it's made in China? We may end up sending it back to them someday.....

If the box you're carrying your ammo in goes bang, you've got a problem. If that same box fits into your weapon's chamber, again you have a problem

Lol, I know what you mean. The ammo box I have is showing it's age and I thought about grabbing a new one. But after the description I saw on those, I figure mine will be just fine with a fresh coat of paint when I decide to finally sand it down and do it right. But then again, the wear on it gives it a bit of personality.

Looking at bare minimums in ammo supply, looks like I need to boost the stock on payday.

Another story from my trip to war. Falklands.
For the troops we carried as far as ammo went, it was open season. They had been under budget constraints for years...maybe fired 400rds/year.
We had 3500 troops that had to fire at least 100 rds/day. Lot of waterproof ammo boxex.
The ships crew would line up at the blunt end of the ship to collect the empty ammo boxes. NOT for tool boxes, but for bug out boxes in case we were torpedoed.
Each box would hold at least 600 cigs a carton of safety matches and a bottle of scotch!

A little car wax and armorall goes a long way if you care how they look. I like them a little scratched up and definitely like the stenciled calibers on the cans, although I print off a label with what is in it and stick on the lid. I stash mine in a conditioned crawl space under the house. The Temperature in there never varies much between 70 and 75 degrees, and there is no dampness at all as the return air circulates through the crawl space.

Now that's what I call survival rations! Gotta love the Brits - they certainly have style

I grab a couple at each gun show... but I need to back off some, as I'm pretty full on all ammo for each caliber that I have...
