Nervous about concealed carry test...what to expect?

Well I finally got some time to sign up for the course to obtain my CCW license. I chose a 2-day course (4 hrs coursework tonight, 4 hours range on Thursday).

The outdoor range I go to offers a 15-yard handgun range only, so that's the only distance I've been able to practice from. I'm still not very consistent (3 range trips total, 200 rounds) and I'm not sure what will be expected of me at the qualification course. Since I'm still getting used to Heinie sights I'm a bit nervous to actually have to shoot for someone.

Anyway, I just didn't know what to expect. For those of you who have taken this course (I'm sure they are all a bit different), what was it like and was it what you expected?

    Wish me luck :P

Where I live I have to qualify with each individual semi-auto I want to CC. I have taken the range test a half a dozen times. I get nervous each time, which is stupid because the range test is so easy to pass. There's just something about having a guy with a stopwatch looking over my shoulder that bugs me.

Wow...Ct is easy. You take the NRA course, shoot a few rounds with a revolver and an auto. As long as you don't shoot anybody or make any gross safety mistakes and can hit a target you are good to go. The instructor even works with the people having trouble and gets them through it.

Here in Tennessee I believe that I can use any firearm to qualify, although I am going to use my PT145 since it will be my carry weapon. I just have no idea if I have to shoot from several distances, or just one distance, or what to expect.

Hopefully the instructor(s) will be helpful and informative!

I can only speak for Ct but everything is handled by the NRA instructor. The biggest emphasis is on safety and proper handling, what to do if it jams/missfires etc. Marksmanship is secondary, they don't expect you to get 2" groups. We fired 22 rev and 22 auto (provided with the course) from 25'. They brought out a couple of heavier caliber for anyone who wanted to try them. I took the course with my wife and it was pretty relaxed.

There must be someone from Tenn. on here who can give you more specific info on your state requirements.

I just looked over the Texas course yesterday, the hardest part here is 15 yards, 5 shots in 15 seconds. Oh the center scoring section of the target is 18inches tall by 12inches wide. Should be a cakewalk.

In Washington, you just have to send them a check, they don't test you at all.

There's also 3 shots in 9 seconds, and 2 shots in 6 seconds at the 15 yard line. But yeah, a cake walk.

No doubt, Tennesee will have something different though.

Actually, if you like to shoot, it's fun too!

Is there a class req? I'm planning on getting my Washington CCW permit, and from what I've heard having my Oregon permit is enough to show I qualify.

There is no class or course required. Pass the background check and pay your cash and you are good to go.
