He's got a pretty nice setup. I'm confident that I can get it done with a drill press, Dremel and hand files and sandpaper.

Basic ARs start at about $600 (no optics, 1 mag, basic furniture) and go up—and UP. Building one may get you under that if all you look at is the budget. It will also get you the gun you want on the first pass (one hopes!). I initially bought a basic DPMS that has performed very well but I did make changes that cost $$. I have not added the total of the gun and my alterations but it would be fairly significant - some things like optics I changed more than once.

FYI the lower receiver IS the core of the gun. It is the part that is sold LIKE a gun, NICS check - sent through an FFL etc. The rest of the gun is your call. Buying an 80% complete lower receiver avoids the FFL and NICS check. It is essentially an unfinished part. In this case a hunk of fiber reinforced cast resin. You can buy them in alloy as well.

If you are thinking of trying an AR - look at the DPMS Sportical and Oracle. they are solid guns by a trusted company at a very good price point.

If you want to take on a build I might buy a stripped but complete lower and do the FFL etc. rather than take the 80% route. There are MANY good guides on AR builds on the web. The guns systems are very modular and straight forward — IMHO.

Those are actually a great price for what you get. Consider it would probably cost you that much to buy a shovel to make the Shovel AK47 and here you get a lower that just needs some finishing.
This unfortunately came after my wife got hold of my debit card so her hobby (she's suddenly into quilting) so I'll have to check back with them next week.

I have seriously considered one to use as a 22 build.

I guess these are serial numbered? How are they seen by law enforcement? No legal issues?

No legal issues and no need to put on a SN (but it is recommended). The issues come about if you sell them. Then a SN would be needed. And if you are seen by the goobermint as selling them for a business, then you have ISSUES.

Only 40 pink ones left. I decided against one as no reason to build another AR. I have too many now.

Did you see CAP 15's are back 130.CAV-15 MKII AR15 Polymer Stripped Lower Receiver - AR-15 - GWACS Armory, LLC

or $199 complete lower...Not bad. I plan to go with this in the tan color instead!!
WHY you ask because I don't have an AR 15 in such a configuration. I have all the rest.

I knew I shouldn't have followed this thread. Ordered two, one for me, one for my son. As mentioned, all they have left is pink, but a can of Krylon will take care of that. I already have a DPMS carbine so I'm not sure how I'll build this one out. Maybe as a varmint gun with a 24" barrel, or 10" barrel pistol.

    Thanks Obama.
