somebody better tell my glock barrels that they have over 1k fmj's through them so they must be shot out! Hurry!

Seriously, did he have any substantiating information or just that he heard?

Why don't you do a test yourself, shoot 1k rounds of fmj through your Taurus, if no ill effects you're good, if ill effects send it back and they replace it.

    Sounds like win-win to me.

That steel barrel is a heckuva lot harder than copper.
No way will FMJ wear it out, well, maybe after 50,000 or more rounds.

No. That's not true. I've had several weapons with well over 1000 rounds through them and continue to go strong.

My oldest PT-99 has well over 10,000 rounds of FMJ and is accurate today as it was when new.

Judging by the look of my '92 barrel, your brother might be mistaken.
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither

assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to
prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence
    than an armed man.”

Respectfully, your brother's assertion that a copper jacketed projectile will wear out a steel barrel in less than 1,000 rounds is the silliest thing I've heard. I have over 1,000 rounds through a S&W M&P 9fs and it's as accurate today as when I bought it.

There is some debate as to whether or not the same can be said of Russian steel case ammo with bi-metal jackets. From what I can tell, it's a steel jacket wrapped in a thinner layer of copper. I fired a couple thousand of this type of rounds through a Glock I owned with no ill effect.

My highest round count was over 5k rounds through a 1911, with all but the couple hundred lead semi-wadcutter a friend gave me being hardball & jacketed hollow point. Up
to the divorce, it was still as accurate as when purchased. The only way I could see this happening is if someone dropped the ball on the heat-treating process.

If a 1k will wear a barrel out, my 1911 was worn out 2k rounds ago!

What was your brother suggesting you use instead of FMJ ammunition. Lead round nose?
