    Tulammo is CRAP

I bought a box of that Tulammo stuff in the black box, red trim, in .40 S&W at Walmart the other day. They are a good bit cheaper because they are not brass casing. I also found out the other reason they are cheaper, because they SUCK ASS>>>>>> Out of the first two mags I ran through my Glock, I had two or three FTF each mag. This is a Glock 27, so I only had 9 rounds in it. They were not light strikes either. Some of them fired the second time around. Pretty crappy stuff. Don't waste your money.

    Re: Tulammo is CRAP

Thanks for the heads up. I have good luck with Eastern European ammo chambered in traditional European calibers like 9x17, 9x18, and 9x19, but not very good experiences in Western calibers like .38 special or .45 ACP. (The same type of problems you experienced with Tulammo). Then, again, both bad experiences were with Monarch which is an el-cheapo Academy offering. I wonder if Tulammo and the Monarch stuff came from the same factory.

If I'm buying European ammo, I generally stick with the more expensive S&B ammo since they don't use bi-metal ingredients - which are bad ju-ju at the indoor range that I normally go to. But thanks for the heads up on the Tulammo. I'm going to avoid it, which is too bad since the price is great.

I've heard that they are pretty dirty too. I'll stay with WW, RP, Fed, and the more common brands.

Monarch ammo is from two different European manufactures. The brass is Serbian Priva Partisan and is fairly decent stuff.

The Monarch Steel is Barnul from Russia with love. I've only bought it in 9mm, .223 and 7.62 x 39, and have never had a problem with it.

The Tula Russian plant makes the Wolf steel cased ammo, and Priva Partisan in Serbia also makes the Wolf brass cased ammo.

Wolf and Monarch are only importers, not Manufactures.

    Re: Tulammo is CRAP

The whole reason I bought it to try was the price. I usually get the white box Winchesters in the 100 bulk pack for the range. They just started stocking that Tulammo at my local Walmart, and for the price, I figured I would give it a try. It was almost 4 dollars a box cheaper than the Winchesters I normally bought, so I was skeptical even before I shot them.

I didn't notice them being any more dirty than the Winchesters. But, I didn't put too many through the gun either. I quit with them after the second mag. I still have over half a box left slogging around under the back seat of my truck.

The only really cheap ammo i've found to work well is the Wolf stuff. Even that ammo, you have to look around to find it cheap, and you have to order it in bulk. Here lately though, it hasn't been worth the difference to order ammo, as the 100 packs of Winchesters at Wally World have been almost as cheap. I think they are 30 bucks and some change for a 100 box of .40 S&W. that's really not bad at all.

I was going to post up here a few days ago and ask if anybody had heard about this ammo or had any experience with it. Walmart has it coming out of their ears. No wonder.

Clean your gun, paying attention to the firing pin channel. Tula doesn't use the same soft primers as most US companies do. If there is much of a build-up in the firing pin channel, you'll be seeing this problem, even with "normal strikes" in the primer. This is aggravated by cold temps on the range.

    Re: Tulammo is CRAP

Nearly any ammo manufacture can make a a bad batch of ammo. I haven't found much of anything dirtier than Win. White Box, and while I have a fair amount of it in my larder. my preference is Federal Red and CCI Blazer Brass, even UMC (Rem.)

I have had hard primer shells out of some Wolf in .45 acp, bad primers in CCI. If you shoot enough of any brand of ammo, you will eventually get a bad lot.

So many ways ammo can fail, OAL, powder charge, primers, crimp and we fire thousands of rounds personally and expect perfection in every round. Shoot enough of one brand and you will have some type of failure. We all tend to gravitate to the brand we have the least amount of failures, the best degree of accuracy with.

Currently, I have had no problems with any Federal Red Box or any UMC Centerfire.

With CCI Blazer, I had one bad box of .380 with primer problems, after firing thousands of rounds of 9mm and .45 acp with no problems.

I never had a problem with fail to fire with Winchester, but have had Fail to feed, fail to eject, and the stuff seems dirtier than most.

While the Ruskie stuff has mostly been perfect shot out my Ruskie guns, I have had one fail to fire in my PT145, due to a hard shelled primer, that out of 100 rounds only.

Did I get much of a sampling of Ruskie .45 acp? No, I automatically decided not to shoot Ruskie .45 acp, although 90% of my ammo for my Ruskie .223 and 7.62 x 39 is Ruskie.

I fully expect that someday I will get a failure in Federal Red Box and all my dreams of Federal will also be shattered.

I have a lot of personal defense rounds in Corbon, however, I don't make a practice of burning just a whole lot of Corbon at the range, just too damned expensive.

I feel perfectly comfortable with Wolf, Barnul, Tula, and Monarch in my Ak's (soft points), Winchester +P's in my .38 specials, Corbons, Hydrashoks, Silvertips, Gold dots in my .45 ACP's, Remington UMC .380's in my Keltec and any brand of buckshot in my shotguns. For my .22's, I've never had to worry about a Jackrabbit shooting back, but I still like the CCI mini mags when not shooting at paper.

The bottom line, you just have to go with what feels best to you.

I know what you're saying, and don't disagree to a point. I guess with money tight and such, first impressions matter more now than they ever did to me. My first impression of this ammo is "crap." Until I see good reason not to think so, my opinion will remain it is "crap." LOL, I know i'm being critical on the opposite side, but i've shot thousands of the dirty winchesters and UMC's, and never had a problem. New kind of ammo, and the first batch I buy is bad? Not cool. If I pay for a massage in Guam and don't get a happy ended, i'm not going there again. Same concept, 30% of the time, the ammo provided no "happy ending," which was a hole in the target.

    Tul-Ammo for 45 ACP

Was in Wally' World the other night and they had the Russian made Tul-Ammo brand in 9mm and 45 ACP. Defintiely less expensive the the WWB. Any of you had any experience with this brand ?

I shoot Brown Bear and Siver Bear in my FEG PA-63 with no problems. This ammo shoot a little dirtier than the other 9 X 18 mak. ammo I have used.

Was wondering if the Tul -Ammo has had any bad reports. I think I will buy a box and take to the range when the weather is a liitle more cooperative. I will report then.
