Hey all...got a question for 'ya, but first some background.
I recently purchased a very lightly used 617 (stainless). I purchased the gun hoping it would be something both my wife and I would enjoy shooting. My hope was that the relatively heavy weight of this snubnose combined with light for caliber standard .38's would result in a very comfortable shooting experience. So far it has met those expectations.
However, I did some accuracy testing today and have some concerns. Hopefully you all can give me some insight...
I was shooting 130 grain standard .38's (Rem. UMC) at about 7 yards. The groups were excellent and exceeded my expectations. But, it took me a while to get dialed in as everything was hitting extremely low. Like 6-8 inches low. In order to put rounds where I wanted them I had to hold aim high enough to completely obscure what I actually wanted to hit. It worked, but wasn't a very intuitive experience...to say the least.
Is this to be expected considering this is a fixed sight model that is chambered for the .357 magnum cartridge? I really want to stick with standard .38's for maximum shootability, but I'm not sure I can tolerate having to aim like that regularly or, if it ever came to it, defensively. Should I try other standard .38 ammo (not that I have much opportunity to acquire any right now) or will I likely be better served getting something chambered for .38 specifically. Thanks!

Saw this in my local news this week. Sheriff stated the homeowner has a CCW and is well qualified with firearms. Charges will not be filed but it is under investigation. They would have to prove this wasn't in defense of himself or home.

Another BG who made the wrong move. Burglary suspect killed by homeowner may be linked to other crimes | KRTV.com | Great Falls, Montana......

The laws in Montana are pretty clear on what you can defend and how far you can go. "Montana Code Annotated:
"45-3-103. Use of force in defense of occupied structure. (1) A person is justified in the use of force or threat to use force against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that the use of force is necessary to prevent or terminate the other person's unlawful entry into or attack upon an occupied structure.
(2) A person justified in the use of force pursuant to subsection (1) is justified in the use of force likely to cause death or serious bodily harm only if:
(a) the entry is made or attempted and the person reasonably believes that the force is necessary to prevent an assault upon the person or another then in the occupied structure; or
(b) the person reasonably believes that the force is necessary to prevent the commission of a forcible felony in the occupied structure. " -45-3-103. Use of force in defense of occupied structure.

This is an interesting code:
"45-3-110. No duty to summon help or flee. Except as provided in 45-3-105, a person who is lawfully in a place or location and who is threatened with bodily injury or loss of life has no duty to retreat from a threat or summon law enforcement assistance prior to using force. The provisions of this section apply to a person offering evidence of justifiable use of force under 45-3-102, 45-3-103, or 45-3-104. "

well here goes. I seem to be having an issue with my extractor, quite often my Taurus 24/7 9mm fails to extract the casings. I am not sure if the problem is the spring on these extractors is so stiff or just because the extractor was designed close to flat. I know that I have the option of sending it in to Taurus but with my current situation I am not so sure that it would work best for me. I live in Colorado and we passed a law as many of you may know to ban any magazines over 10 rounds. That said if I send my firearm in it must be sent with a mag and all I have is 17rnd mags. there is a chance it will get returned without the magazine. this law is taking affect come July so pretty soon. Does anyone know of a way to get ahold of an extractor? Taurus will not sell one and I have yet to find one on the internet

If you were looking for a good holster for your PT111 G2 and thought your only option was Theis, I just wanted to give you a heads up, even though Old Faithful doesnt have the G2 listed on their site, they informed me today they DO in fact have shells for it now.
As some of you may know Old Faithful makes great hybrids, thicker leather than most (and its English briddle) and .093" Kydex instead of .080" or God forbid .060".I love the way thicker Kydex looks when its formed and its much stronger.
When you order they said to just select the PT111 (even though it says "Gen1 only") from the drop down menu, and in the comment box when you order, state its for a G2, and theyll get you sorted.
I own multiple Old Faithfuls, and think they are one of the best hybrid holsters you can buy, and cheaper than most others if you do the self build kit.
I just bought the G2 shell for one of their holsters I already have (another great feature, being able to swap shells) so I'll post a pic up once it comes!

It was ... a change.
Country music, head cheese, country ham, an accent that took us a year to understand, and...
Scrapple
Ingredients

3-pound bone-in pork butt, trimmed of visible fat

4 quarts water

Salt and pepper to taste

1-1/2 teaspoons dried thyme

2 teaspoons rubbed sage

1 teaspoon ground savory

dash allspice

dash ground nutmeg

dash ground cloves

3 cups corn meal

Directions

Boil pork butt ~ 2 hours, until tender

Remove meat, reserve stock

When the meat is cool enough, remove from the bones, discard "excess" fat (You have to define excess - but his is not health food)

Chop meat finely. Just how finely is hard to describe. You don't want chunks, but you don't want ground meat either.

Return 2-1/2 quarts of the stock to the pot.

Add spices.

Bring to a boil.

Slowly add corn meal, whisking steadily

Cook for 15 minutes, stirring to keep it smooth, until very thick. This means that it should almost hold a spoon upright. If it gets too thick, add a little stock and cook a bit longer.

Add meat

Cook another 15 minutes stirring occasionally.

You can add more spices at this point. Mixture should not be bland.

Spray 2 9x5 loaf pans with cooking spray

Put wax paper in bottom of pans

Pour/spoon mixture into pans

Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Slice and fry.

The alternate route across the river takes traffic right through downtown Burlington and Mt. Vernon. That area is congested as is.
Luckily it wasn't mid-span that went down and those stranded can be reached. Another plus is the Skagit isn't running high at the moment.
UPDATE: State DOT is investigating an overheight truck load that struck the bridge. Three rescued so far.
