I'm guessing the officer had called in back up and that neither of the two idiots went for their gun when placed under arrest - otherwise this would have a different ending. You can't fix stupid.
I hope they get slapped with fines and jail time. I also hope their CCW gets revoked. Idiots like that make all other responsible CCW holders look bad. Whats the point of picking a fight with LEO by not showing your credentials when asked, again stupidity at its finest!

Was the "suspicious person" call really enough to stop them? Thats what I have a problem with. Well that is, in addition to the very very big problem i have when it comes to needing a permit to exercise our second amendment rights!

Young dumb and full of... Well you get the picture! I always try to cooperate with the boys in blue, it seems to make life a little easier.
Seems to me, that the LEO was acting on a complaint. He arrives, sees 2 people with readily accesible weapons, that may be used to kill him...I think he might be a bit apprehensive...and forceful....Leos are trained in most jurisdictions to temper the questions with the perceived threat and returned attitude. Again in most jurisdictions, back up is called for any complaint involving weapons.
They did not comply with the law, they got arrested. Did NOBODY any favors. Next time that LEO gets a similar call, he will probably think OH Jeez another AZZh%%e.
Throw the damn book at them!
I have a concealed carry permit in the state of WI and when taking the class that was offered was strongly advised that it is in your best interest to comply with an officers request as long as it is within reason. I was also told that they may ask for my liscense and permit at any time that I am carrying and it is fully within their right to expect me to comply because permission to conceale carry is an at will thing given by the state, not a right. That being said it is also legal to open carry but open carrying here tens to lead to getting unwanted attention most places so I try not to mix open and concealed carry. I also found it interesting that they made a charge invovling a spring assisted knife. I once bought one for my wife that is a legal carry spring assist style that opens out. At the time I bought it the rule on this type of knife required that the assist be a thumb stud that is part of the blade and the knife has to open so much on it's own.
This is a tricky one.
Were they exercising their right to open carry? Is 19 allowed to OC by law in that state?
Here in Alabama permit holders are required by law to surrender their permit and their weapon upon request by a LEO.
I would not hesitate to show my permit.
Illinois law is a tricky set of provisions and legalese that i'm not exactly willing to attempt to begin deciphering, their open carry laws are closer to concealed carry laws than most other states. I do know that in PA, anyone over the age of 18 with a clean record can open carry while on foot. However, they cannot obtain a concealed carry permit until age 21, and the moment they get into any vehicle, it's considered concealed.
Any way about it, these two should have complied and showed their permits if they both have them. It's amazing how easy it is to get out of trouble by just handing over a piece of plastic. Some people just bring troubles onto themselves by making stupid decisions.

This is a challenge and believe me, the American people are up to the challenge,...." -Glenn Beck
The officer was right and Bevis and Butthead were wrong. They should have produced the permits when first contacted by the officer.

I don't know whose class you took but, the instructor was wrong.
In WI the LEOs must have RAS that you have or are about to commit a crime, AND know that you are carrying concealed before they ask for your CCL, they cannot just out of the blue ask you for your CCL. That is written right in ACT 35.
OC is alone is not a reason for police interaction. WI is *not* a "stop & identify" state. I'll chat with LEOs, I have a number of friends who are LEO, but as soon as they start toeing that line I fall back on my rights (politely, but, firmly).
As far as OC "getting you attention", well, I guess it depends on where you are and who you are. I've OCed in just about all areas of this state (yes, even Milwaukee and Madison) and have yet to have a single encounter of a negative type. The few people who notice are usually either curious or approving, most people are just plain too self involved with limited or no situational awareness to even notice.
I don't OC to start a legal pissing match or overtly make people aware, if someone notices and is curious I will talk to them, explain the laws, etc etc....but, hell, I'll talk about vehicles, boats, etc too...I was raised old country and have a tendency of being overly polite. I OC because it's freaking more comfortable than CC is, and I was OCing long before Act 35 came about so it's old hat and habit.
My open carry rig is a Serpa CQC with a PT1911-DT...big gun, part stainless with black/white Grim Reaper grips against blue jeans and black or white t-shirts typically...definitely not inconspicuous<g>
As far as the two chowderheads in the vid...well...I'll be honest, I haven't watched the vid/read the article and I don't care to. If it's the law that OC requires a permit and is in a "stop and identify" state, then that's exactly what they should have done and they deserve whatever's coming to 'em. If not, well, then I would have (politely) told the LEO to go pound sand.
As far as running your own video...absolutely...I run a voice recorder at all times...regardless if I'm carrying or not...in the event that my day goes sideways on me, I want proof that I didn't cause or escalate the situation.
Ok guys, very funny, bring back the Constitution now...
