Man Illegally Stopped for Concealed Carry Uses Legal Precedence - Video

This guy knew his legal rights and would not give a damn thing up he didn't need to. Keep in mind I think it would have gone differently had he not had his phone out and recording.

Edit: He is in Maine where Licensed Legal Carry does not distinguish between Open and Concealed

Well wasn't that sweet? Finally the supv. officer stopped the BS, and said release him. I had originally figured it was going to go south in a hurry. But even the stopping officer did maintain his cool (somewhat).

    No, he wasn't illegally stopped.

One has to answer all "man with a gun" calls to ensure some psycho isn't about to go postal or hose down your child's day care.

Never attempt to "hold court" on the side of the road.

You "may" win in the long run, but it won't stop an arrest for "interfering with the duties of", or "obstruction of justice".

The guy's being an "ass" to the LEO trying to do his job.

Yes some person called in a man with a gun, they should have responded. He WAS illegally DETAINED because he was not wielding the weapon (it was holstered), committing a crime, or suspected of a crime. If they are not charging you with anything, you are allowed to continue on your way.

The only thing I would've wanted them to do (if they hadn't done this before the filming started) was ask to see his permit.

A detention is not an arrest, you have to determine the man is "legally armed" before he can be released to the public.

No different than him receiving a BOLO on a vehicle invovled in a bank robbery that matches your car's description.

If spotted you will get "detained" until your identity and purpose is determined.

The guy was an ass. Probably out trolling for the exact response he got. Went on the defensive immediately. Judging the officer's demeanor, had the guy shown his permit right away, he and the officer would likely never have had to waste all that time. Common sense folks.
Texas is neither southern or western. Texas is Texas!

    Texas friendly, spoken here.

IMO common sense says that the person open carrying a firearm is not the problem.

While I feel this type of action is overboard, I also feel it is necessary when many in LE don't know the laws themselves. I feel this would not have been handled as quickly if the guy was not also carrying a video camera, guess that's why many states have made it illegal to record LEOs without their knowledge.
