Looks like beginning May 1, 2010, fingerprints and photos will no longer be required for CHL renewals. This and a more streamlined process has been rumored for a while. It's not broken down to the nuts and bolts in the article, or more like an announcement, but it's coming, and more, my sources tell me.

If you think pushing 60 is hard, wait until you start dragging it!
That's great news and it sounds like the automation will make it very easy. Now if they would drop the prices a bit....
Cheers.

Luckily I was still active when I got my original license. Now just have to fork out $35 for renewal. Doing the whole thing online sure will make it easier.

Fat chance of that happening. The state needs all the revenue it can get to keep from reducing services.Originally Posted by wyohman

Got some good news this week. Some of you Texas folks may already know but I didn't. Getting ready to renew my CHL and signing up for the local class and found out that fingerprinting is NOT required any longer for renewals!!
That was great news to me. When I got my first CHL, I went through the print cycle 3 times. Age and wear and tear have given me odd-looking prints. Even tried the new electronic scans and failed that the first time.
But this time, no prints necessary for renewals. I don't mind the class, as it's only 5 hours.
