There are several times where I would prefer to open carry, especially when out in the woods or Everglades hiking.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or shooting sports, it is about the citizens of this country having the means to protect themselves and the states from the tyranny, oppression, and misery of an over powering government. Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.

It will be interesting to see if it passes, number one, and if so, what will be the policy within the State Parks System. Most parks we visit are fairly benign, but I wouldn't mind open carry in a few myself...

Good luck, guys. At least we'll have more arguments over whether OC should be done, I guess.

By law state parks allow carry already concealed with a permit, or locked in a vehicle. - local parks do through pre-emption, national parks do not. Some localities try to ban guns but are taken to court usually by Florida Carry.

I'll have to look again but I thought in Florida National Parks follow state law with the exception you can not carry in posted Federal Buildings like visitor centers.

    You are correct:

Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009.

Specifically, Section 512 (Protecting Americans from Violent Crimes):

"(b) PROTECTING THE RIGHT OF INDIVIDUALS TO BEAR ARMS
IN UNITS OF THE NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM AND THE NATIONAL WILD-LIFE REFUGE SYSTEM.—The Secretary of the Interior shall not
promulgate or enforce any regulation that prohibits an individual
from possessing a firearm including an assembled or functional
firearm in any unit of the National Park System or the National
    Wildlife Refuge System if—

    (1) the individual is not otherwise prohibited by law from
    possessing the firearm; and
    (2) the possession of the firearm is in compliance with
the law of the State in which the unit of the National Park
System or the National Wildlife Refuge System is located

    Federal facilities are still restricted:

"18 USC 930 (g) (1) Possession of firearms in federal facilities (i.e. visitor centers, ranger stations, government offices, etc...) is prohibited."
