You know the system is screwed up when armed FELONS get less time than some nonviolent kid who decided to take a few hits with his pothead friends.

That, and the current administration chalking up violent crime and those incarcerated for committing violent crimes as examples of "racist policing".

    2/16/17 - Read first time
2/16/17 - Referred to Homeland Security & Public Safety

I agree with this comment...there are too many 'legal-law abiding' citizens who are too darn crazy to have a weapon.

I have no fear of constitutional carry, and hope it passes in Texas. Whack jobs, are going to carry anyhow.

I also have no fear of outlawing gun free zones, arming approved staff in all schools and putting them through proper vetting and training.

My only fear in arming school staff is.. what if they're the ones that lose their minds and start shooting up the place. you know, to like make a statement or something.

A couple of outlying school districts began arming a limited number of staff about four years ago, as well as adding additional campus police.

Four of my grandkids attended one of the districts that did so. The district had 6 campuses. This was following the Sandy Hooks shootings.

20 staff were chosen to be armed. The vetting and psychological evaluations for those 20 staff members took about 5 months, and those 20 underwent training over another three months prior to the beginning of a new school year, when they would be armed. The list was kept secret. I imagine all six principals were on the list, as well as the school superintendent at the time. Two additional campus police were added giving the district a total of four officers. This gave a total of 24 armed staff, or 4 per campus. I could probably guess as to 10 of the armed staff, as I have met many of the administrators in the school system.

I felt much better about my grand kids safety once the system was in place.

Absolutely! That's the clear and obvious explanation for why constitutional carry states have so much more cri... oh. Nope, facts don't back that up.
