    Open carry/conceal carry

I've been looking around to find the answer to this question and have found nothing. I plan on calling my local police dept. for answers also, but thought I'd throw it out here as well.

As most of you know Ohio is an open carry state, but my question is this. With having a CCW permit, am I still allowed to open carry or did I lose that right with my permit? It would seem to me that I should still have the choice, but I can see why they may feel that since I have a permit to carry concealed then it should remain concealed.

I don't know that I really want to open carry as I can see a LOT of headaches coming with it, but I would like to know I have the right if I were to choose to.

    Thanks

I don't have an answer for you on your original question, but I would advise you to carry concealed....open carry can be a successful deterrent...but it can also make you the first target of the bad guy in order to eliminate the threat to him/her. Better to catch the BG off his guard. Just my 2 cents

IANAL, but, my understanding is that the right to open carry in Ohio exists regardless of whether you have your CHL or not.

Something to consider though: A lot of people on the http://www.ohioccw.org/ forums say that if you're planning on open carrying, you need to make sure that you have your legal fees ready. While it is technically legal, a lot of people don't like it and will make your life difficult as a result.

I know some cities in Ohio, hate open carry. They will hassle you. I to think you should check out the Ohioccw.org site. You can open carry or conceal but be sure you know the rules for each.

    Re: Open carry/conceal carry

It would seem that if more people were informed of the laws and exercised their rights that it wouldn't be that big of an issue. I feel like writing a letter on it and sending it to my local paper to see if they would put it in. I don't know that something like that would actually help, but it couldn't hurt. Like I said earlier, I don't necessarily want to open carry, just feel that if it's my right then I should be able to hassle free.

    Re: Open carry/conceal carry

Actually not much. I know people do in KY, as KC3 gets people who are hassled by LE, in some counties for doing it. We have our legal people contact the departments to challenge the LE on this issue.

I have open carried, before and since I got my CCDW. But I do find it easier to just conceal, unless I am taking THE JUDGE out for exercise. That thing is too big to conceal, with a 6.5" barrel.
