Hogue HandAll Jr grip on Taurus PT738 TCP

Disclaimer: This is only an example of what I've done. I accept no liability what-so-ever if someone follows my example. Customize firearms at your own risk and ALWAYS make certain the gun and magazine are UNLOADED first.

Hello everyone! This is my first post on this site and really wanted to make it special. Hope it helps someone else out.

I just bought, modified and installed a Hogue HandAll Jr grip on my Taurus PT738 TCP. It's Houge model #18000 which is made for other compacts but it's the closest thing I could find that could be modified to fit without much trouble.

The grip suits the TCP better by flipping it upside down. Otherwise the top finger groove is too small. I trimmed a little off both ends starting with the top. I used a pair of sharp scissors to trim about 1/8" inch straight across the top.

Then I used a craft knife (Exacto blade) to trim the bottom. With the magazine removed I carefully followed the contour of the base of the pistol handle. When finished the grip is perfectly flush with the base of the pistol so it doesn't interfere with the magazine.

I also trimmed a very tiny bit around the bottom of the magazine release button just to make sure there was no rubber touching the button. Hopefully I'll get to fire it this weekend at some point to see if it cushions the recoil and aid my grip.

    Now for the pictures!

I don't feel I need one for the 738 or the 709. But I did on the PF9.

http://www.pachmayr.com/tactical-grip-gloves.php no need for modification but what you did looks good and some may like it better.

I got to try it out today and it does make a difference. I could have shot all day long if someone else was supplying the ammo and range fees. The grip reduces the recoil felt and I think it also gives my trigger finger the little extra room it needs for a nice even pull. By making the grip just a little larger the trigger distance feels more natural. I agree that the TCP feels pretty good as far as compact 380s go but for around $10 I think this makes it even better. I'm meeting with some friends Monday night at the range, I'll see what they think. A few own Ruger LCP's, so recoil is like night and day now.

PS. I just ordered a FNX-9 last night. Can't wait to get that in my hands!

I shot my 740 few days ago, first time with the Handall jr on there. Went through a little over 100 rounds with what seemed to be less fatigue in the hand/fingers than usual. I like it.

I tried it both ways and liked it flipped upside down too but I have some pretty large hands and fingers.
