Did you attempt "double strike" on the failed primer?
Finally got my 709 out for it's first range trip. Gotta say this thing rocks ! Nice to shoot and even though I have problems with accuracy due to limited movement in my trigger finger, I was within about a 3 or 4 inch circle at about 25 feet. Here's a break down of the ammo I shot:
1) 50 rounds of American Eagle-no failures
2) 50 rounds of steel cased cheapo Brown Bear-no failures
3) 8 rounds of WWB JHP carry ammo- no failures
4) 50 rounds of PMC-no failures
5) 24 ronds of WWB JHP carry ammo- no failures
6) 60 rounds of WWB Target ammo- 1 fail to fire due to a bad primer, reinserted in mag and fired 2nd time around
7) 21 rounds of Speer Lawman-no failures
Gun ran great with just the one failure due to ammo. It's cleaned up and ready for carry. I'm extremely happy with my purchase and feel confident with this as my new carry piece. Thanks, Shoo

Good question and I'd like to know too. I've never had a pistol that could do that second strike before and never have had any factory ammo misfire.Originally Posted by 0tt0d0g
Hi guys, Yes, I did pull the trigger a second time when it didn't fire. I then ejected the round and it had a good striker hit on it. I then put it back in the mag and cycled the slide, it went off no problem. I'm pretty convinced it was a bad primer. Your thoughts ? Shoo
Glad to read your good report shooboy. Just picked up my 709 Slim on Wednesday. Have yet to shoot it. Got it home right away and cleaned the heck out of it to get rid of all the packing greese. Not sure I got it all. Was hard to clean around the firing pin. Any advice there?
Will probably get to the range this weekend. Right now I have a couple of different ammunitions that I plan to run through it. I have a 100 round box of Remmington 9mm Luger 115 grain, and two 50 round boxes of Federal FMJ 9mm 115 grain. Would be interested in your thoughts on these ammunitions. I was surprised at how cheap the federal ammo was. Walmart, 50 round box, 10 bucks. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Well, I'd shoot the Federal first as that's what I did. The American Eagle ammo I shot first is made by Federal, so it may be similar. I don't have any experience with the Remington. I saved the WWB Target ammo I had for last as guys were having a lot of problems with that. I cleaned my gun before shooting it but didn't do anything with the firing pin arae. Just cleaned wher I could see the grease and put a little oil on the slide and rails. I hope yours runs as perfectly as mine did. I'll be getting rid of my CZ Rami 40 now as I think the 709 will do a fine job replacing it. Good luck and let us know how yours runs, Shoo
Will do. Thanks for the help Shoo...I'll get a range report up soon.
well with all the reports from others about mostly extraction problems it is good to hear a positive report.
I shot 100 rounds of 115 FMj and 15 rounds of hydrashock 124 through mine at the last range trip without a problem.
heading back to the range Monday for another go round with it.
the only time I have used the double tap feature on any of my taurus was the 24/7 c in 45 acp , was shooting range ammo and the first time no fire , just a click, then said hey good time to try this, second time a loud bang and something flew out of the barrel and hit the target, so i guess it worked.
