So I bought this gun to shoot at IDPA etc. type events mostly for fun. Figured the 5.25 in. match barrel in 9mm would provide great accuracy and light recoil. I read all about how I needed to clean the gun thoroughly before shooting it, so I field stripped it the night before and went through several cleaning pads getting gunk off. I couldn't find any info on detail stripping the top half, so I didn't detail strip the lower.
The next day I grabbed 150 rounds of 115 Federal from wally world and hit the range. There were some good things and some bad things about the gun. First the good, I like the way it feels in my hands. The trigger took some getting used to, but I think I have it and the wonderfully short reset down. I had a ball alternating body shot, head shot, body shot....
I realize it is still in the break in phase (and the getting to know you phase) so I'm not too suprised I wasn't blowing out the bullseye with every shot. Now for the bad.....I had several (10?) failure to ejects where the spent casing ended up in a vertical position between the slide and barrel almost sitting on the next round being chambered. It did this with one mag at first, then both later. It also did it less frequently at first than it did later on. Once it failed to feed a round, which scared me when I pulled the trigger and got no report both times. Relieved upon not finding a squib, I chambered the next round and finished the mag. Near the end of 100 rounds I decided to decock a couple of times to really try out DA. No probs. But a couple rounds later after shooting a round the trigger became impossible to pull all the way back to fire the next round. I popped the mag and cleared the round, and dry fired down range no prob. Reinserted mag, chambered, and it fired fine. This happened 3 times I think. I didn't finish the last 50 due to these problems occuring frequently in the last couple of mags.
My biggest gripe though, out of everything, is the grip. Or more specifically the checkering on the back of the grip. Sadly it is also my biggest gripe about my Glock! I like to shoot atleast 100 rounds per gun when I go shooting. A day later and my palm still has a sore spot from the OSS checkering digging in. I bought a Pachmyr grip for the Glock, but took it off cuz it fills the finger grooves in making the front grip smooth, I like the finger grooves. I tried putting it on the OSS but it does the same thing altering the grip.
SO, my questions are, will a thorough detail strip cleaning clear up the fte and trigger issues? Why can't I find info on detail stripping the slide? I think there might be gunk in there I couldn't get from feild stripping it that could be causing these problems. I really don't want to send out a new gun.
And any suggestions on the back checkering killing my palm?
