There is probably a million threads on this here so what is one more. Since the burnt powder and such we are cleaning off of our weapons is basically carbon. Has anyone ever used 2+2 gum cutter or carb cleaner to clean their gun? I realize you would have to make sure you oiled well afterward, I just wondered if anyone had done this.
From reading the forum for a couple of years now, most people will say to use polymer safe Gunscrubber only on your frame/internals. You want to stay away from acetone and chlorinated compounds many times found in automotive products. Our friend in Rockford and others use CRC Electronics cleaner sold at Wally World. It's safe for CB boards and circuits. The barrel, slide without contacting any plastic, many use non=chlorinated brake cleaner. Many will say that isn't your investment of 300.00+ worth a 10.00 can of gun cleaner. I use Ed's Red, CRC and non-chlor brake cleaner.
I am just wondering because I have only been able to find CLP locally and do not like it. it doesn't clean very well, especially the shiny stainless parts.
