Was cleaning my 24/7 OSS today and noticed some good usage on different parts. I thought I would take a few pics of them considering some posts I've seen about the barrel. I changed some of the pics to black and white to make things a little more clear. Would you guys say this is normal for ~500 rounds?
In the first pic it looks like there is a gouge in the barrel. A gouge definitely isn't normal.
The wear on the bottom of the barrel at the end of the chamber also looks a little excessive.
In the rest of the photo's I can't tell if there is abnormal wear, or glare from all the oil. Do you always keep the gun so completely drenched in oil? What kind of lube are you using?
Can you take some pictures with the gun dry? It would make it easier to see what is actually wear, and what is just glare.
Regardless, if there is actually a gouge at the end of the barrel then it needs to go back to taurus with a letter that addresses all of the areas you're concerned about.
It is hard to say in my opinion on most of the photos, I am better when actually holding the firearm. That said, as dcphoto said, the gouge is something I would be worried about. The scratches on the outside of the silver part of the chamber on the last photo, I don't know that I have personally ever seen a used 24/7 OSS with out them.
That doesn't look as bad as I thought originally. The only spot I'd be concerned with is the uneven wear on the locking block. Is there corresponding wear on the underside of the slide where it contacts the locking block?
The back of the slide looks ok. The wear at the muzzle looks fairly normal. The galling on the chamber (IMHO) is a defect, but every OSS I've seen has that wear. When I sent my 24/7 Pro back to Taurus for that they sent it back saying nothing was wrong.
is there an easier way to contact taurus..I tried the number on the website but no one answers. And no there is no other wear on the other side of the locking block
I always called the 1-800 #. When you call the 305 # or 800 #, most of the time you will need to wait about 5-10 mins before a CS rep answers your call.
What could be the reason for it? I'm using Reminton UMC FMJ's 230g @835fps and I clean the gun after every session.
