If I tap the bottom of the magazine of my G2 hard enough it will release the slide effectively chambering a round without me hitting the slide release. I know there are not a lot of G2 in people's hands yet but does anyone have this happen with their Taurus semi-autos?
I haven't decided if I should be concerned about this or see it as speeding up magazine changes. Should I call Taurus about getting it worked on?
I know in most M9's it can be done with the right angle of tap. We usually practice it in training, just to speed up our qualification times for fun... I dont think it is anything to worry about.
took me about 15 tries, but I did manage to 'tap' the bottom of the mag and get the slide to release. By 'tap' I mean hitting it with about 20lbs of force. I removed the mag first though...
The control you mention is not the slide RELEASE... it is the slide HOLD OPEN. To release the slide and load, it is best to pull back the slide... if there is a round in the magazine, the follower will no longer hold up the slide hold open (aka slide catch).
If you pull down with the slide catch, you may start to polish the notch on the slide, making these sorts of unexpected slide closing to occur more frequently.
Do I have another issue with this pistol?? My 24/7 ProC will not release the slide by pulling it back slightly. I must use the "release, or stop" to get it to slide forward to battery.

There must be a magazine with ammo in the firearm or no magazine in the firearm for this to work.
Pulling the slide back and releasing it with an empty mag in place should not allow the slide to go into battery.
This isn't really unheard of. In fact, the S&W M&P cautions, in the Owners Manual, that inserting the magazine vigorously will cause the slide to close, chambering a round.
It has more to do with the angle of the slap than the force.
well as i am not one to baby a weapon when shooting it I have on several occasions had many different pistols chamber while inserting ( i use this term loosely) a loaded magazine into the gun.
this usually occurs with a fully loaded magazine as well, seldom with a partially filled mag.
It don't bother me as I wanted a bullet in the chamber anyway.
Normally if i "sissy" the mags in they don't unlock the slide.
