On Friday 2/25/11 I ordered a 24/7 (and a PT92 I've got a great wife) and on Monday 2/28/11. WOW! It was the free shipping that Bud's offers and well it was technically 1 business day. Okay enough about buds. On first inspection the 24/7 is a great looking gun. After reading the manual, field stripping the weapon a few times. I have to say I am very impressed. It feels great. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the polymer grip as to the rubber that used to be offered. I have to say it fits my had very well. The features on the 24/7 are great too. the cocked indicator, de-cocker, etc. are all very nice features IMHO. These two guns are my first two handguns so... Please take my review with a grain of salt. Over all though I'm very happy with both and extremely happy with the 24/7. Now to shoot it.
well I think you picked two "GOODIES" personally!
The 92 of course has been produced for decades and is a clone of the Beretta 92 and a proven design for sure, and the 24/ 7 in my opinion is the best Taurus designed weapon they make.
you hear very few problems or complaints from either model.
i got both models and they have been perfect.
enjoy.
Thanks to all. I am very happy with them both and with Bud's. I got to shoot them both on lunch today at a local range. The 24/7 shot 3" 5 shot groups at 25' all low the first two sets were to the right. I adjusted the sight and then all were dead center line but still low. Same with the 92 only to the left. I did not make any adjustments to it. these are my first ever handguns. I used winchester 147gr bullets. (all they had at the range) so I will try some different ammo and see what happens. The 24/7 trigger is a world different than the 92. I still feel like a kid in a candy store.
in SA mode the 92 trigger is very even and has a short pull. It is very easy to shoot and control. The 24/7 is also a great shooter. Its trigger in SA mode has a longer pull. I shot this one first 15 shots all on the 8.5x11 target at 25'. Most of the group was in a 5" group but all over the target for the most part. Remember this is my first experience with handguns. I shot the 24/7 more with 5 shot groups and was much better.
As to which one to buy? I really like them both. I recommend them both. The 92 is tried and true and has many, many, many positive reviews from all sorts of folks. The 24/7 is less known but also has a lot of positive feed back. I would say the 92 is a no brainer. If my wife would have said only one my dear it would have been the 92. I would have been very happy with that. The 24/7 is at buds for $297 so that is how I got that one too. Good luck
You'll find that PT92's shoot ANY Bullet Weight well. A benefit of the oscillating wedge locking system.
My 9mm 24/7 Pro seems to prefer the 124 grn Bullet weight but will also shoot 115 grainers well, too. Have not tried with 147 grainers in my 24/7 as yet, but I had some vertical stringing with other similar Pistols so I abandoned that bullet weight unless being used in a PT92 or P38.
I've owned and operated my PT92 for since July of 1992 and it continues to serve.
A veteran of many harsh IPSC Matches and general use.
I absolutely love my 9mm 24/7 Pro and it serves as my main defensive Pistol in warmer weather.
jcw007- Thanks for your input. I was wondering if the ammo wasn't the problem. But both pistols shot low so More than likely it was me. I am hooked. For a first experience I couldn't be happier. I'll be out there again on Thursday. I work with 2 gun nuts like myself and we can go to the range for lunch. I really like the 92. It shoots very well as it has been tried and tested and loved by many. The 24/7 is very comfortable to hold. The sights are great on both.
I pretty much find the same to be true with what JWC said!
Now i have a 99 , so adjustable sights to compensate for different weight projectiles.
I really don't adjust the sighst once i have a carry round though.
but even then the 99 seems to handle 115-124-147 either standard or plus p rounds really well.
I and it seems to like the 124 plus p the best.
the 24/7c that have in 9mm is no doubt a liker of the 124 grain standard velocity ammo.
I think that once you get use to the two pistols and learn the short trigger reset of the 24/7 just may surpise you on its ability to print nice groups and very rapidly as well, you get rid of all that long old trigger pull and the 24/7 is a wonderfully fast weapon, especially with a modest weight standard velocity projectile.
got one in 9mm. absolutely fantastic pistol. wouldnt sell mine for anything
