I have been having problems with bullets that have a broader flat tip on them. This has happened to me with magtech ammo as well as CCI blazer ammo. Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem but when I compare the barrel ramp on the 24/7 to other guns in my collection as well as some friends firearms, the barrel ramp seems to be narrow and has some pretty high walls. This is the same gun that I posted about earlier with the slide casting stuff. I'm sending it off today but I wondered if anyone had any insight into this.I have been having some consistent issues with the slide racking and not coming back forward after a shot because a bullet did not feed properly.
Hilariously enough, me living in Miami and like 30 minutes away from their HQ gets me nowhere. I was strongly discouraged by their CS staff to head out to their HQ. Also, from the looks of the barrel and the barrel ramp, I dont think that it is defective, its nice and polished and looks good. Im just thinking it was perhaps not the best design and I wondered if anyone else has had similar issues.
well commonly you will find that some guns will run on any ammo, some are somewhat picky on certain ammo.
so my advice would be to try other manufactures and lean toward FMJ (a round nose) type ammunition and see if this doesn't remove the chambering problems.
Gnerally a flat nosed ammo will have more tendency to hang on the ramp and chamber area than a rounded projectile and a jacketed projectile will feed better than a lead projectile.
Most 24/7's have a very highly polished slick feed ramp and seldom is chambering problems reported.
Now of course there are shooters faults that can cause chambering problems as well.
I realize that every gun is picky about the ammo you can feed it in some way. Ive been buying every cheap target brand I can find from various online vendors and have noticed that any bullet with a broader flat nose is an issue. I dont think its an issue with how I load the mags since the refusal to chamber a round usually comes during the middle of the clip. I was just curious about this since before buying the 24/7 I read many posts from people stating their gun pretty much had no problems with any type of ammo. From my experience, Sellier & Bellot seems to be my 24/7's favorite food.
the case with all three of my 24/7's is just that, if its the correct caliber then it works!
but as mentioned not all are that way i assume.
as for middle of the magazine??
well are you limp wristing, failing to continue to support the shooting arm firmly?
does it happen near the end of a shooting session when you may be fatigued?
personally I don't go along with how you load a magazine has much of anything to do with a gun chambering correctly, well as long as you load the bullets pointing the right directuion that is.
once you fire a weapon anything that you did to the rounds in the magazine is all rearranged by recoil anyway.
hope you get the problem worked out.
No, I'm not limp wristing the gun as I shoot, I keep a firm grip on the gun and to be honest I'm a pretty big and strong guy and the recoil on a .40 doesn't phase me. I really only brought this up because I can recreate the problem with ease by shooting specific ammo. Perhaps these issues will all be gone in a few weeks. I sent the gun off for repair yesterday and along with my other concerns, I mentioned the fail to feed issue I have sometimes.
I loaded up some 200 grn. jacketed flat points the other day for my .45 OSS. While I haven't been to the range with them yet, they did cycle through the gun by hand.
Ya, for me some of the rounds chamber fine and then others dont. When I eject the unspent round, I will usually see small grooves pressed into the tip of the bullet by the feed ramp.
The ramps on my Pt1911's, 24/7's, and 709 you can honestly use them as mirrors to shave with, very clean , highly polished and smooth as a babies butt.
typically if i can take my fingernail and run it up the feed ramp and not catch then its right in my opinion.
Try cleaning the mags. I got some new mags from Taurus and they were really gummed up.
You could scrape the protectant off with your fingernail. I degreased the mags the springs and found small burs on the followers that I sanded down. After that everything ran fine. Good luck.
I've not had ANY issues with Bullet Shape on either of my 24/7's. My 9mm 24/7 will feed my Flat Pointed Reloads and any Hollowpoint I have on hand. Same with my .45 24/7 OSS, which will also feed my 200 grn Lead Semi-Wadcutter Reloads. My Flat Pointed Reloads are made with Berry's Bullets, 124 grn in 9mm and 200 grn in .45 ACP.
If your're having feed issues, the Magazine info by .45 Forever is where I would Start. If it continues, then have a look at the Extractor possibly not allowing the case rim to slide into the boltface as easily as it should.
Yep! I clean and inspect any mag in a new gun at the same cleaning that i do the pistol, a bad mag in a semi auto is like a bad ribbon on a typewriter(do you remember them?), it looks like it is working really good but theres no printing going on.
I dont want to file this under complaints because it could easily be a fluke. I did not clean my mags when I brought the gun home and that very well may be the problem. I think I mentioned that I have experience with guns but they were all firearms that were already in the family and so this is my first experience with a brand new pistol. Oh and my 24/7 is in .40 cal.
