    24/7 OSS Discontinued?

According to davidsons the 24/7 OSS has been discontinued. Is there truth to that??

    Re: 24/7 OSS Discontinued?

First I've heard of it! Seriously doubt it, too!

24/7's of all models sell extremely well and I doubt Taurus would want to mess with that.

Distributors have been known to exagerate some of these things just to expedite sales and boost prices, but it could be possible. Ran into that when I was shopping for a PT909.

Could be that a production run has just ended and will be run again later. Could also be that the 24/7 Gen 2 Pistols will be coming along, but Taurus had indicated they were an additional model, not a replacement model. Then again, minds and management can make changes. The Gen 2 Pistols will probably not show up till Christmas 2010 or later.

This is something that I'll believe when I see it from Taurus.

Perhaps Taurus Customer Service knows, but they may not be telling.

Well I want one (in 40) but don't have the $460 just laying around to throwdown on one. Maybe they will come out with a 2nd Generation or that the G2 will take some of the thunder so I can get one cheaper.

    Re: 24/7 OSS Discontinued?

maybe the g2 will have an oss version that is to replace this current one. and after reading the page with the g2 on the taurus website it clearly states that the g2 is a mix of all the best features from the 24/7, 800 series and oss lines. sooooo with that said its probably true that the oss is to be discontinues. as is probably the 24/7 original line. but as a positive thing if they are discontinuing the oss and original 24/7 line then we will probably see the g2 prices at the same point the current lines are at. i have noticed that the only 809 available from davidsons is the ss model. they no longer offer or advertise the blued model. and i suspect that the ss is on the way out too as soon as stock is gone.

idk dudes I kinda like the OSS from what I've seen, I don't see how the G2 long slide is going to be an improvement over the OSS but am I missing something?

well heres a couple improvements for ya. first is the glock style take down. no parts to get lost and it literally take less than 2 seconds to field strip. second is the interchangeable backstraps. this makes the gun usable for more people. i have a walther and that feature fine tunes the grip to your hand. third is the trigger safety. just one more thing to ensure you wont have a negligent discharge. and it comes in 2 models. decock safety and no safety sa only versions. and they have a tennifer finish.

that all seems like an improvement over the oss

Yeah, I ment in actual performance though I didn't see anything about a match grade barrel and your going from 13 rounds down to 10 in the 45acp model, really I can just run 10 round mags in my 1911 and have that. The round capacity in the G2's is what really makes me go "meh I'd pass".

I do like the new takedown lever and the tennifer is a plus, but me personally I don't feel the 24/7 was real hard to take down and I prefer stainless finishes anyhow. I do like you can choose between a SA/DA a DAO or a single action trigger model. I'll admit those are improvements though, and I like the interchangeable backstraps. If these proved reliable I'd recommend a 9mm version to my girlfriend cause of that. I'm just not sure why they chose to actually reduce the round capacity in these cause if they still held the same amount of rounds as the 24/7 and used match grade barrels with the 5 inch slide? I'd dig it, for sure. Personally I'm hoping they are an extra model and their not replacing the 24/7 and OSS. I dunno lol I just want my PT1911 9mm :P

    Re: 24/7 OSS Discontinued?

i would suspect the round count is more due to the shorter handle on the frame. and it doesnt have an extended base plate on the mag either. so add those two together and you have 3 rounds less. i agree that the take down is fast and easy on the prior models. but when your in a combat situation and you need to break down that gun. the pin is the weak point. i dont own a glock. but i do have a couple walthers and the takedown is similar to a glock or g2. its effort less and there nothing to lose.

    Re: 24/7 OSS Discontinued?

Yeah but how often are any of us in combat, I know I'll never see combat I wouldn't last 5 minutes in a real fire fight. Now these would be more appealing to someone like a police agency looking to save alittle money on an order of handguns, I can totally see that especially with the changeable back straps and ease of take down. Now again the simplicity it might make a nice gun for my girlfriend she likes just something that's as simple as possible and she'd appreciate the smaller grip, but yeah it would be a sell for me if it just had the match grade barrel and extended mags...

I mean you have the G21 13 rounds the new XD 13 rounds, that's kinda where I see this gun being aimed towards so just cutting the mag capacity down don't make sense to me. I can see 10 rounds on the 45 model cause granted the M&P is only 10 rounds and that's an excellent gun but in 9mm these are 15 rounds and the M&P is still 17... 17 rounds of 9mm is kinda the industry standard now and theres guns that do it and do it while having a slim small grip, look at the SR9... but I'll just have to hold one and see it in person to really tell for sure honestly cause these might just have an amasing trigger and point great and they'll make me go "yeah who cares about the mag capacity and the lack of the match grade barrel these shoot SWEET" you know? You just never know till you get your mitts around a gun... But I'm gona call my FFL and price out an OSS 45, Lipseys has them in stainless.

    Re: 24/7 OSS Discontinued?

actually i seriously doubt that the 9mm will be offered in 10rnds in anything but a compact and california model. the 9mm will be 15 at least. and more than likely 17. now the 809 has a 17+1 cap and the g2 frame is based directly on the 800 series. so i doubt your looking at a 10 rnd 24/7 in 9mm
