24/7 pro trigger and light primer strikes

I took the 24/7 in 45 out to the range on monday, been a while since i've shot it. due to ammo cost etc. I got a new lee pro just to load for this gun. I shoot all the time usually just 9mm and 22lr. so it's been about 6 months since i last shot the 24/7. man i was disappointed with the trigger. I forgot how spongy the trigger was. out of 25rds of reload i had 5 light primer strikes, 1 fired on the 3rd pull, 3 fired after i re chambered it, and 1 didn't fire at all. then i shot a box of factory lawman with no problems. i was using winchester primers, i know most will say it's the reloads however, I've had light primer strikes with focchi before, nearly 1/2 a box didn't fire on the 1st strike.

light primer strikes seems common with taurus or is it just me?

Its just you from my experience, especailly with the 24 series weapons!
I would guess the reloads as well, maybe high primers, contaminated primers, hard primers?
some factory ammunition is reputed as having hard primers, i have never had a problem with any ammo generally speaking, i did find a round with a backward primer a few mionths ago but that is very unusual!
I would look at the reloads ,especailly how you are seating your primers.

+1 Make sure your striker channel is clean. You should clean it every five hundred rds or so.

Could be the striker gentlemen but??
"I fired a box of lawman after my relaods and they fired just fine!"
so are you saying that the striker cleaned itself to fire the factory ammo?
    Just making a point here.

My initial thought was the reloads, had some defect in primers. OLD, contaminated, or just not installed quite correctly??

Re: 24/7 pro trigger and light primer strikes

Well the striker assembly might be hitting hard enough to fire the "factory ammo" but maybe not hard enough to fire the "reload ammo". I don't know, I am not a gun smith, I just know when I cleaned my striker assembly, alot of junk came out.

If anything, just shoot factory ammo, since that is what seems to work.

    Good luck!

Re: 24/7 pro trigger and light primer strikes

i loaded 100 more rds, this time i made sure i had another 45, sig 220, with me. bout 15 rds had light primer strikes, none went off on the second pull, but all fired in the sig. I know the everyone wants to say it's the reloads, but in my OP i did mention that a nearly 1/2 a box of factory Focchi didn't go bang for me. I was gonna send it back to Taurus, but i'll try to clean out the firing pin channel 1st. anyone got a link to a "how to"

cowboysfan66, it cost 26.00 for a box at the range, I can reload for under 7.00 a box.
    thanks

    btw,
I keep shooting right and high. at bout 10yrds i'm 3inch right and 3 inch high. with my other guns it's not a problem. wut am i doing wrong.

The dust cover is just that!
but you will want to replace it!
apparently you did not clean the firing pin/channel upon the initial cleaning?
still interesting why it would fire the lawman without a problem , but at least you figured out what it was!
as for proper cleaning on a Taurus new weapon just read the many post about this, your're not the first that didn't clean one properly.
and you will not be the last I am sure!
happy shooting, and as for the right and high are you left handed?
