Is it ok to keep my mag fully load?

    Hello,

I have a 24/7 pro ds, 9mm. and I use it for home defense and I keep it fully loaded (17 rounds) all the time.

Will this mess up my mag/clip spring?

Sure, it is fine. The only thing that wears out a spring is the constant compressing and decompressing of the spring. Being in either compressed or decompressed mode does not hurt the spring.

Re: Is it ok to keep my mag fully load?

The only thing about a fully loaded (New Mag) is the spring tension might be a little too much pressure initially and cause some feeding problems in a high capacity mag. This won't necessarily be the case, but it is good to break in a magazine and see if it reliably cycles with a full load before trusting it that way initially, and you should get experience with any mag you buy to make sure it is reliable. Keeping a mag full once the spring has initially relaxed in no way hurts the spring.

Re: Is it ok to keep my mag fully load?

I learned this factoid on this forum as well so I now keep all my mags fully loaded. So I'll throw in a several month late THANKS!!!

Everybody I talk to says you "have to download" and I just look at them and smile...

Until I get an FTE that I'm sure is because of my mag I'm not changing a thing!

I keep them fully loaded as well, ready to slap in if need be.

I have a handgun magazine that has been loaded since 1975. Yeah, I shoot the pistol some, and the mag works perfectly.

If the gun is going to sit, I unload everything, all mags. If it's a carry I'm going to rotate back to or in the drawer in the bedroom, I keep it loaded, no problem.
