Carrying a 24/7 Pro 45 "cocked & locked" safe or unsafe?

I have read a lot of opinions about carrying loaded and ready to fire with the safety on. This seems to vary depending on the make and model of the gun being discussed. What is the real "skinny" when it comes to the 24/7 Pro 45 acp?
Some of it's magic, and some of it's tragic. WWJBD?

Not sure about the 24/7 other than supposedly the PT111 I have uses the same trigger locking system as on the 24/7 or at least the same basic design. Now with that said I keep one loaded and safety on when carrying. I do test the safety regularly, every time I clean the gun which is once a week or after firing it.

Cocked and locked refers more commonly to the single action M1911. In itself that discussion has been decades long, but for most the answer is, it is safe to carry it locked and cocked. If you are trained, it is safe to carry that way. Your pistol is striker fired and will not fire unless you put your finger on the trigger. It is not a hair trigger or a traditonal single action (though I wish the trigger pull on these pistols was smoother and lighter), It is safe to carry without the safety being on if you are familiar with the manual of arms and conscientious. If the gun is not on your person (in the glove compartment, bedside drawer, or closet shelf), keeping the safety on might make more sense if you want to keep a round chambered. When knowing you may well be entering a threatening situation the safety should be off on your Taurus. The same situation though with a 1911 puts you on the ready with a single action (light trigger) pull where a novice or improperly trained individual may be more prone to make a mistake. The longer, double action/single action triggers pretty much avoid the issue and make the gun safer for most individuals.

I see no real benefit in having the 24/7 cocked. If you decock it, you can still fire the pistol with a pull of the trigger, admittedly a DA pull, but you don't have to rack the slide. I carry my 24/7 Pro c 45 with one in the chamber, decocked, and the safety on. I grew up on 1911's and Brownings, so flicking the safety off is second nature. I may be over cautious, but I won't carry any of my DA/SA or DA only guns with a round chambered if they don't have a manual safety.

I never carry my 24/7 c cocked and locked as they say!
I carry a round in the chamber and the safety on!
these being double action/ single action pistol with second strike ability I can really see little if any reason to carry them cocked and locked.
it is a simple matter of releasing the safety when the weapon is drawn or about to be used, then if the threat is removed to apply the safety again.
its not like a single action where the mammer must be cocked to fire.

You lost me there! If you have a SA/DA auto with one round in the chamber, you ARE cocked and ready to fire. How else would you get the round in the chamber without cocking the firing mechanism at the same time. It's been a long day, I'm probably just hallucinating.

For Carry, there are three options for this design, assuming you have the older "Pro" Model and NOT the "Pro DS".

1.) Chamber Empty, Magazine Full, Safety OFF (AKA Israeli Style Carry)
2.) Chamber Loaded, Magazine Full, Safety ON (Cocked, Loaded, Locked)
    AKA - Cocked and Locked
3.) Chamber Loaded, Magazine Full, Safety OFF

For my 9mm 24/7 Pro (not a DS Model), I use condition 2.

The newer "Pro DS" Models add more options by being able to decock the Striker fully for a DA First Shot capability.

Pro DS Model Carry Options are as follows:

1.) Chamber Empty, Magazine Full, Safety OFF (AKA Israeli Style Carry)
2.) Chamber Loaded, Magazine Full, Safety ON (Cocked, Loaded, Locked)
    AKA - Cocked and Locked
3.) Chamber Loaded, Magazine Full, Safety OFF
4.) Chamber Loaded, Striker Decocked, Magazine Full, Safety ON
5.) Chamber Loaded, Striker Decocked, Magazine Full, Safety OFF

For my .45 24/7 OSS DS, I would carry in options 2, 4, or 5, and typically 5.

    Full mag +1; safety on.

I found that when I draw, I naturally flip the safety off without thinking about it; and before I've cleared my holster. (The safety lever's location is such that when I place my hand on the gun my thumb naturally flips the safety off as I grab the gun.)

ah , actually panda it is not cocked or locked , it may be cocked or not cocked as the 24/7c pro D/S has a decocker lever, so you can decock it and still have a live round in the chamber.
    IE :double action!
just pull the trigger once the safety is removed.
lay down and take a rest and those evil thoughts will fade away.

Re: Carrying a 24/7 Pro 45 "cocked & locked" safe or unsafe?

I was carrying my OSS condition 1, cocked and locked, until this summer.

After reading one to many stories of people forgetting to turn the safety off when confronted with a threat, I changed to carrying decocked with the safety off. This is essentially the same as a Glock or any DA gun.

    IMO, either way is safe.
