Out of all you have mentioned, I believe the 809 will be the most user friendly. We have a few members here with a PT-845 and they seem extremely happy with them.
Hi everyone,
I'll be purchasing a new firearm in the next couple of months. Taurus is on my short list along with Ruger and S&W. Looking for opinions which one I should purchase the 24/7 Pro DS, OSS or wait for the 809/840 to come out? I'm interested in the 809 because it's hammer fired and that is where most of my experience is at with a military M9...I have zero experience with striker weapons. I have handled the 24/7 pro and it was the best feeling weapon ever, it was like it was made for me.
The primary use of this weapon is HD and range shooting. Thanks for the assist.

Thanks NYPD, the 809 seems to offer a lot of features I'm looking for.
How have your experiences with Taurus been? I've seen on other forums about hit/miss QC issues, but the 24/7 felt so good (and the PT 1911 as well) I have doubts about that.
I'd go with the 809. Better takedown, hammer's a plus (in my opinion) and you still have the decocker. Best of all worlds.

ive been looking at getting a 24/7-9ss but im liking the option of a hammer. I think i will wait for that 809 to come out this summer, if i dont buy a duo tone PT92 first.
I like the idea of a hammer. only real handgun ive shot that dint have one was my dads SR9, great gun. Just takes some getting usta the way it feels.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 809's gonna feel almost identical in your hand, (I should hope). It's an upgrade on the already wonderful 24/7. I would suggest waiting for the 809, and if you don't like it as much, the 24/7 pro ds will still be there. As far as I've experienced, Taurus is great. Their CS staff (while not the most knowladgeable ever) are helpful, prompt. Lifetime warranty, incase you get unlucky (I did).
Well, I'll be buying in May so hopefully the 809 will be available by then. If not I'll probably go with the 24/7 pro ds and pick up the 809 later.
Just looking at a (somewhat local) gunshop's website, they have the following Taurus models listed. The 809 is a little more expensive...just because it's new?
809- $490.49 (though none in stock) the 845 SS is 501.00 with 5 in-stock.
24/7 Pro- $362.96
OSS- $425.09

I've owned quite a few Taurus pistols and have been happy with all of them. In my opinion the hammer is not that important (military also). I have an OSS .40 and love it. The gun is more accurate than my capablities. With the recent history of Brazil's steel industry, the 809/840 will be released probably closer to the end of the year. That is why their 1911's came out so late. Good luck with your decision. Either choice you make you can't go wrong.
Thanks jdsmith, I'll probably end up getting the OSS or the Pro DS (depends which one feels better to me). My brother in law lives down at Eglin AFB and apparently they sell Taurus (among other brands) at the BX now at killer prices. He got a 9mm Millennium Pro with some extras for $305 out the door.
